Teaching a defensive switch
A switch should disrupt the offense without conceding an easy mismatch. Duran builds the habits from isolated small-on-big and big-on-small defense before adding screens and help.

- Start with 1v1 mismatches. The smaller defender works behind the post player and uses quick feet; the bigger defender gives a guard space, stays balanced and contests the shot.
- In 2v2, pressure the passer and discourage the high entry to a post mismatch. The bounce pass takes longer and gives the smaller defender a chance to contest.
- Add an off-ball screen, then a ball screen. Call the switch early so both defenders know their new assignments; protect the shooter and the screener's roll.
